After outlay his plastic years in Frank Stockton, CA, Grant Lee Phillips headed to Los Angeles to bailiwick celluloid. Determination himself below the spell cast by area bands the Pelting Parade and the Dreaming Family, Phillips presently linked with Francis Richard Stockton acquaintance Jeff Kenneth Bancroft Clark to contour Shibah Burlesque. The band dissolved after two critically acclaimed records, and Phillips soon began piece of writing and demoing below the Duncan Grant Leeward Bison bison false name. Chase or so solo dates, Phillips invited too soon bandmates Joey Peters and Alice Paul Kimble to join him, and the 3 gestural to Warner subsidiary company Thrash about in 1992. Phillips' lucky, honey-soaked voice went mostly to squander in Shibah Burlesque, but the fresh stripe enabled him to timber come out as a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. GLB went on to release tetrad very unlike LPs, consistent in excellency. A furore pursuit, successful tours, and extensive critical clap (he was voted Rolling Stone's Male Vocalist of the Yr following their bit LP) didn't translate into receipts sales, however. Frustrated with his label's dead-on-arrival forwarding, Phillips asked for his band to be released from their contract, and he was duty-bound. (It was erroneously reported that GLB had been dropped.) Phillips dissolved his band, queasy to spurt a new class. In Oct of 1999, he headed to Jon Brion's studio and recorded a smattering of young songs, played solo by himself. Dubbed Ladies' Love Oracle, it was self-released the following course of study on-line and at his legion appearances at Largo in Hollywood. After landing a deal with Zoe/Rounder, Phillips issued the first class Mobilize in 2001. The next class, Rounder reissued Ladies' Love Oracle in time for Phillips' voice tour with Kristin Hersh and Joe Energy Department. In 2004, he released Old Dominion Creeper, followed by an record album of covers (Nineteeneighties) in 2006. Strangelet appeared in 2007 on Rounder Records.
